Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday has said that his government is committed to serve the Northeast and enhance the region's all-round development.
"My government is committed to serve Northeast region and enhancing its progress," the Prime Minister said after inaugurating the Dhola-Sadiya bridge in Assam.
"Whether it's road infrastructure, rail infrastructure or optical fiber, our attempt to connect the Northeast with the entire country is being pursued at a rapid pace," he said, adding, "This Dhola-Sadiya bridge will save Rs.10 lakh of fuel everyday for the common man."
"We are naming the bridge after Bhupen Hazarika," he said.
"Within the first year of BJP rule in Assam, the state is getting rid of many of its problems," he added.
Built at a cost of about Rs. 2,056 crore, the 9.15-km bridge will ensure 24X7 connectivity between Assam and eastern part of Arunachal and reduce the distance from Rupai on NH 37 in Assam to Meka/Roing on NH 52 in Arunachal by 165 km.
