Gold worth 2.5 cr seized at Mumbai Airport, part of consignment recovered from plane toilet

The officials of Mumbai Airport Customs Department have succeeded in recovering smuggled gold worth over Rs 2.5 crores in two different cases. Not only this, the Customs team has also arrested three passengers involved in the smuggling of gold in one case.
According to an official of the Mumbai Airport Customs, the incident happened on December 2 and 3.
In one case, the team of Customs Department arrested three passengers who arrived at the Mumbai Airport and recovered 1872 grams of gold dust concealed in specially designed undergarments of the accused. The team intercepted all the accused for checking, while they were trying to suspiciously escape unchecked at the airport. During the physical checking, the gold was recovered.
In another incident, on information, the team of Customs Department recovered 2840 grams of gold from a flight toilet. The said gold was recovered during rummaging the flight toilet. It is being suspected that the recovered gold was being smuggled in connivance with some of the staff members of the airlines company.
The recovered gold has been seized and the three passengers have been placed under arrest under the Customs Act. Further investigation is being carried out.
