Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day Hindu festival devoted to Lord Ganesha to commemorate His birthday.
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals celebrated in India. In Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka, the festival is celebrated on a large scale.
In the 126th year now, Ganeshotsav was started in Mumbai on a modest scale by freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in 1893. The aim was to mobilise the masses during the Independence movement.
