Security forces killed four heavily-armed terrorists, believed to have intruded from Pakistan, in an encounter in Jammu on Wednesday and seized a cache of arms and ammunition, including an US made M-4 carbine from the spot.
The encounter took place early in the morning at Sidhra amid dense fog, when the terrorists were learnt to have been carrying the arms and ammunition to Srinagar in a truck, to be seized by a Quick Response Team (QRT), where the driver jumped the barrier and managed to escape.
A joint team of Army, CRPF and J&K Police launched a massive search opertation for a couple of hours to trace him out. According to police, 7 AK-47 rifles, one M4 rifle, 3 Pistols along with other ammunition were recovered from the spot.
The Army and police jointly claimed it to be successful anti terrorism operation ahead of the Republic Day.
The truck was almost burnt as grenades were lobbed at the vehicle.
Besides arms and ammunition, various other items including pouches and medicines have been recovered from the bags of terrorists. The recovered material would help identify whether the killed terrorists were Pakistanis or local Kashmiris, said police.
