Four arrested for shootout and assault in Hauz Qazi area

A man was allegedly attacked by his relative and his three associates with sticks and firearms on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday in the Hauz Qazi area in Old Delhi, the police said.

The matter was reported to the Hauz Qazi Police Station in the wee hours on Friday.

The complainant, Adnan Mirza, a resident of Ballimaran, said he was assaulted by sticks and firearms during a scuffle with a relative and his associates. However, he did not receive a gunshot wound and was discharged from the hospital after first aid.

The police registered a case under sections 307/323/341/506/34 IPC read with 25/27 Arms Act.

The key accused in the case is identified as Maunish Javed, who is a close relative of the complainant. It was revealed that they had an altercation over the alleged use of derogatory language within the family.

The police have arrested four persons in the case including the main accused while the weapon used in the offence has also been seized.

Later, during raids conducted at various places, 37 rounds of ammunition were recovered, while a motorcycle and a car used in the offence have also been seized.

The investigation is in progress and strict legal action is being taken, a police official said. “It is to be noted that the reason for the crime is a quarrel within the family and swift action has been taken by the Police in this matter,” the police official added.
