Former Kerala chief minister and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy was admitted to a private hospital at Neyyattinkara near Thiruvananthapuram on Monday evening after he showed symptoms of fever and chest infection.

The 79-year-old veteran politician was admitted to the NIMS hospital in Neyyattinkara for treatment of pneumonia amid allegations that his family is not providing him proper treatment.

Oommen Chandy’s brother, Alex V Chandy, alleged that his children and wife are denying him treatment. He even filed a complaint with the state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan the other day.

In his complaint, Alex said that Oommen Chandy’s family is denying him treatment. He also said he was pressurised by many people to withdraw the complaint after filing it.

The former chief minister’s family strongly denied the complaint. His son, Chandy Oommen said he was not giving answers to the allegations made by his father’s brother. He said his father (Oommen Chandy) himself has replied to the complaint of denial of treatment. He said that he had nothing more to say in this regard.

Earlier, Oommen Chandy himself came on social media to dispel the rumours that his family denied him treatment.

His son Chandy Oommen blamed the media for the “unfounded rumours” and posted his father’s testimony on social media. He also spoke about his father’s illness and treatment on his Facebook account and described the pain the accusation had caused the family.

Earlier on Monday, UDF convener MM Hasan said that Oommen Chandy would be shifted to Bengaluru for treatment.
