Former Delhi BJP chief, legislator Mange Ram Garg passed away aged 82 at 7.30 am Sunday in a hospital in Paschim Vihar.

Garg was admitted to Balaji Action Hospital after he had suffered brain haemorrhage last week.

Following the death in the hospital, the body of Garg was taken to his residence. It will be kept at the BJP state office, 14 Pandit Pant Marg, Delhi between 11.30 a.m. and 1 p.m., where party members and other people will pay their respects.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the family and supporters of Garg.

“Shri Mange Ram Garg Ji had a deep connect with Delhi and that was seen in the manner in which he selflessly served the people of the city. He played a pivotal role in strengthening BJP in Delhi. His demise is saddening. My thoughts are with his family and supporters. Om Shanti,” tweeted Modi.

“Leaders like Shri Mange Ram Garg Ji are assets for any party. They work selflessly at the grassroots and touch the lives of several people through various community service initiatives. The good work Garg Ji did would continue to be remembered for years,” he added.

Garg was an MLA from Wazirpur constituency between 2003 and 2008. He also served as the president of Delhi BJP for two years.
