Former Cong MP Mahabal Mishra joins AAP

Ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls on December 4, former Congress MP Mahabal Mishra on Sunday joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The new entrant to the Aam Aadmi Party Mahabal Mishra is a former Congress MP from West Delhi, three times MLA from Dwarka Assembly constituency and former Councillor and is considered a heavyweight leader.

Mishra, who hails from the Purvanchal community, joined the AAP during a public rally in Paharganj. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present on the occasion.

“I welcome Mahabal Mishra, a popular leader of the Purvanchal community in Delhi, to the AAP family. Together with your experience among the people and the society, we will take the country forward,” said Kejriwal.

“Don’t vote for those who want to stop the development and welfare work in Delhi,” the AAP convenor said. The Chief Minister further alleged that the BJP wants to stop the free supply of power in Delhi but will not succeed in doing so.

Sisodia said the AAP family was getting stronger day by day, the former MP’s “induction into the party will strengthen its resolve to provide world-class education, health facilities to every section and to make Delhi clean and tidy,” he said in a tweet.

Mahabal Mishra, a strong Purvanchal leader of the Congress, is the father of AAP MLA from Dwarka, Vinay Mishra. Mahabal Mishra’s membership in the Congress party was terminated back in 2020 when his son Vinay Mishra joined the AAP party ahead of the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections and was announced as a candidate by the AAP from Dwarka.

The 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi will go to the polls on December 4, while the counting of votes will be taken up on December 7.
