Former Calcutta High Court judge Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay on Thursday joined the BJP in the presence of state party chief Sukanta Majumdar, LoP Suvendu Adhikari and others.
The development comes amid TMC allegations that Justice Gangopadhyay worked for the BJP while he was a sitting judge in the Calcutta High Court.
West Bengal BJP Chief Sukanta Majumdar welcomed the former judge and called on educated youth of West Bengal to join the saffron party and turn the politics of the state for good
“As a State President of BJP I welcome former Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay to our party, to the family of Narendra Modi. I believe the way he has worked as a Justice for deprived, exploited victims of Bengal, he will carry forward that work with the leadership of the BJP. In the coming future, Bengal’s politics will take a turn. This is the right time for the educated youth of Bengal to come forward and contribute to turning the politics of the state for good,” he said.
Ahead of his BJP move, Gangopadhyay on Thursday said that he would contest in the upcoming parliamentary polls but stopped short of identifying the constituency.
He put the onus on BJP’s central leadership to decide on the seat and predicted that the ruling Trinamul congress would collapse like a pack of cards after 2026 Assembly polls.
On his debut in the political arena, he said that abusive language and various expletives hurled at him umpteen times by the spokespersons of the ruling party in the state had forced him to enter into the political arena.
He further said that the ruling party in West Bengal was already experiencing fissures in its ranks and predicted that it would collapse like ninepins after 2026 Assembly polls if another two to three leaders are sent to jail
