The World Community Service Centre (WCSC), Delhi zone, celebrated Wife Appreciation Day along with a welcoming speech by Bala Murthy, Joint Secretary of the Delhi Tamil Sangam (DTS) at the DTS complex here on Sunday. The programme organisers said it was held to gain inner peace and for peace within every family and in the world.

Over 150 couples participated in the function, which began with a prayer and ‘guruvandanam’. There was a ‘Janani Dance’ by Jayashree Anushya Abhinaya Janani Srinidhi.

Children presented a simple physical exercise demonstration which was appreciated by the audience.

Prof M Parameswaran, president of the WCSC (Delhi zone), welcomed the chief guests Balachandran and Mrs Jayanthi, who highlighted the need for appreciating the sacrifices of wives. They stressed that family unity was the cornerstone of world unity and peace.

Balachandran and Jayanthi conducted the programme where all the participating couples had a unique experience of combined bio-magnetism, exchanging their energy through eyes and hands. The couples felt excited as this was done after several years; for some, it was for the first time in their lives.

Dr Shanthakumaran, Pro- Vice-Chancellor of GD Goenka University, and his wife Lakshmi, Dean of the university, in their speeches, recollected several lovely moments they had experienced during their silver jubilee years.

Besides them, the other chief couples were Ram Shankar (DTS Joint Secretary and Bar Council Panel Advocate) and Harini (Secretary, Tamil Advocates Association, Supreme Court) and Bala Murthy (DTS Joint Secretary) and Amutha who also shared their experience of attending such functions.

Talking about the basic idea behind holding the programme, Prof Parameswaran said, “It is basically aimed at developing family relationships day-by-day and creating a culture of harmonious living. It is a day to appreciate the importance of wives and to promote a culture of respecting each other. Better the harmony in the family, better will be the peace in the country.”

Asked what the main purpose was the organisers wanted to achieve, he explained, “The purpose is to achieve world peace and to adopt this methodology to achieve inner peace which will be helpful for having social and world peace.”
