A fire broke out in the teaching block of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Thursday early morning.
“A fire call was received from AIIMS at 0558/59 hours.Total seven fire tenders were rushed to the site,” said Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Director Atul Garg.
He said the fire broke out at the second floor of the Teaching Block of the premier institute. The fire has been completely doused, added Garg.
In a statement, the AIIMS shared that, “The fire fighting team was alerted after confirmation of the site of short circuit in a fridge. “The fire was controlled immediately by AIIMS fire services, the fire tender staff of Delhi Fire Services also arrived. No casualties or injuries were reported. There is no damage to property.”
In August, 2023 a fire broke out in the endoscopy room at the AIIMS here. No injury or casualty was reported then.
In the wake of the incident, the AIIMS Director had then directed that all departments, units and facilities should immediately audit the fire safety measures in their respective storerooms in line with the requirements of the material stored therein and ensure that appropriate systems for fire protection, prevention and suppression are in place and functional.
