With exit polls predicting a sweep for the BJP at the Centre, party president Amit Shah has reportedly called a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Tuesday. Shah is also likely to host a dinner for the NDA leaders to chalk out alliance’s strategy.

The move comes ahead of the announcement of the results of the Lok Sabha polls on May 23.

Most exit polls conducted by different organisations have given the BJP-led NDA full majority, even as opposition parties are dismissing these predictions.

As many as 11 exit polls have predicted that the NDA will march past the 300 mark. Three others forecast that the NDA will not get 300 but comfortably get more than 272 seats – the majority mark needed to form a government. Only two – NewsX and ABP News – are of the view that the NDA will be short of a majority.

A party or an alliance needs 271 seats to form the government as Lok Sabha elections were held on 542 of the 543 seats.

The exit polls predicted the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance getting 82 to 165 seats. Six exit polls predicted that ‘other’ parties were likely to get more seats than the UPA.

The mammoth seven-phased Lok Sabha elections got underway on April 11 and concluded on May 19. The election was a clear fight between the BJP and the Opposition.
