The government on Thursday confirmed that some 20 Indian nationals have been working as support staff for the Russian Army and that it is trying its best for their early discharge.

“Our understanding is that 20-odd people are stuck. We are trying our level best for their early discharge. We are in regular touch with the Russian authorities both here and in Moscow,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said at a media briefing here.

The government, he said, has already issued two statements on the issue. ”We have also told people not to venture into the war zone or get caught into situations which are difficult,” he added.

Earlier this week, the MEA said several Indians who were working for the Russian Army have already been discharged after such cases were taken up strongly with the Russian authorities.
