The BJP on Tuesday hit back at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks that there will be no democracy, no election if Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes back to power after the Lok Sabha elections, saying the head of the grand old party should realise that dynastic politics under the garb of democracy seems to be coming to an end and the country is witnessing the emergence of true democracy.
Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “Kharge ji, it is true that many things are being discussed in Indian politics. The power of the dynasties ended in 1947, now the power of dynasties under the garb of democracy is being challenged and they (Congress) are wondering what their future will be after the upcoming elections.”
He said the real meaning of what Mr Kharge is saying is that dynastic politics under the garb of democracy, which has been discarded by the voter in the last election, now seems heading towards an eclipse and the true emergence of true democracy is there in the offing. “Whether it is Abdullah and Mufti families in Jammu and Kashmir, or Badals in Punjab, Hooda family in Haryana, all of them lost elections. Ashok Gehlot’s son also lost, Akhilesh Yadav’s wife lost election, in Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter lost election… or the biggest symbol of dynastic politics Rahul Gandhi lost election,” he added.
He recalled the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and said democracy had actually ended during the Emergency period. About 3/4th of the country’s population does not know that the tenure of the Lok Sabha was increased from 5 years to 6 years during the Emergency. Fundamental rights were abolished. If someone was put in jail, he could not even apply for the bail, he added.
The BJP MP asserted that “only two Prime Ministers were elected democratically in India– Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Mr Modi.
