The Spanish tourist who was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand’s Dumka last week said on Tuesday that people of India are nice and she doesn’t blame them but the criminals for her ordeal.
“People of India are nice. I don’t blame the people, but I blame the criminals. People of India have treated me very well, and were very kind to me,” she said while speaking to reporters.
On Friday night, the woman and her male partner were attacked by a ground of men, who later took turns to rape her in a forest under Hansdiha police station area in Dumka.
The woman had been staying at a makeshift tent with her husband when the alleged incident took place.
Following the incident, several people and international activists had started blaming the Indian society and called the country “unsafe for women”.
However, the Spanish gangrape victim didn’t agree with them and said that she has found memories form her India tour except the incident on Friday.
“We have been in India for the last six months and travelled around 20,000 km. We did not have any problems anywhere. This has happened for the first time…I have good memories from India,” she said, adding “I will continue my world tour with my husband.”
“I want to tell some people, especially girls, to coach themselves to face such situations. I know it’s hard and it’s not easy. You don’t forget, but you have to keep trying to leave it in the past,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand police has arrested eight accused in connection with incident. A case has already been registered in this regard and investigation is being carried out, the police said.
