Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday sparked a controversy when he stated that 40 CRPF soldiers lost their lives in the Pulwama terror attack on this day four years ago because of intelligence failure.

”Today we pay homage to the 40 CRPF Martyrs who died because of the blatant Intelligence Failure in Pulwama. I hope all the Martyred Families have been suitably rehabilitated,” he tweeted.

The BJP hit back, accusing the Congress leader of giving a clean chit to Pakistan. ”I think this (tweet) is a failure of the failing brain of Digvijaya Singh. He insults Army, speaks Pakistan’s language & tries to demotivate the Army. It is Digvijaya Singh who should be probed. Who sows seeds to speak against nation & Army in his brain?” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was quoted as saying.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the martyrs of Pulwama. ”Remembering our valorous heroes who we lost on this day in Pulwama. We will never forget their supreme sacrifice. Their courage motivates us to build a strong and developed India,” he tweeted.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted; ”Homage to our courageous jawans who laid down their lives this day in Pulwama in 2019. We pay tribute by maintaining our vigil and countering cross-border terrorism.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge tweeted, ” We bow in reverence to the supreme sacrifice of the Pulwama martyrs. We remember their indomitable valour and courage in the service of the nation. Lest We Forget…”

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid tributes to the martyrs of the Pulwama attack. ”Heartfelt tributes to the brave martyrs of Pulwama terror attack. India will always remember their supreme sacrifice,” he tweeted.
