Detain goons, ensure peaceful MCD polls: Congress

Calling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha goons, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Chaudhary Anil Kumar has, on Monday, accused the BJP of using all means, both fair and foul, to win the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections.

Chaudhary Anil Kumar said that the Delhi Congress will file a police complaint against the BJP for deploying Yuva Morcha goons, who, he said have taken an open pledge to use money, muscle and gun power to intimidate the voters in the MCD elections, as the saffron party has realised that its 15-year corruption-ridden mal-administration in the MCD has whipped up a strong anti-BJP tide.

He said “ally” Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also facing the wrath of the people for toeing the BJP line and corruption. Both these parties are resorting to strong-arm tactics to make an impact in the MCD elections.

He said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had kept quiet on volatile issues like CAA-NRC, Delhi Riots, Markaz, etc. to side with the BJP, and Kejriwal was keeping a stony silence when the Yuva Morcha goons were threatening to take a violent route to win the MCD election.

Giving examples of Gujarat and UP, Anil Kumar said while 25,000 goons were detained in Gujarat and 35,000 had been detained in Uttar Pradesh during elections. The Delhi Congress will demand detention of goons in Delhi too, so that voters could exercise their franchise in a peaceful and democratic manner.

He added that instead of raising issues like corruption, pollution and garbage menace, and demand votes in the name of their performance in the MCD, the BJP was using intimidatory tactics through criminal elements for the MCD elections, which will surely boomerang on it, as BJP had made MCD the Most Corrupt Department.

He further added that most of the star campaigners of the BJP have criminal background, and have been spreading hatred among the people in Delhi through inflammatory speeches and exhortations which has poisoned the political discourse.
