As many as 605 policemen posted in the 15 districts and other units of the Delhi Police have not been relieved from their current assignment despite transfer orders to report for their new postings. This was revealed by the Delhi Police in reply to the query under Right to Information (RTI).
Surprisingly, the Delhi Police Academy Unit tops the list with 86 such policemen, who have not been relieved from their current job, while, the Central District tops among all the districts with 44 cops staying at their old place despite being issued transfer orders.
On the contrary, the 2nd Battalion of the Delhi Police is the only unit where no policeman staying put with their old assignment even after being transferred.
According to a source, an RTI activist Zeeshan Haider had filed an RTI query on October 28, seeking information from the Delhi Police details about those policemen posted in the districts and other units of the Delhi Police but haven’t been relieved despite their transfer orders. In response to the RTI query, the police force responded with the data of 605 policemen waiting to be relieved from their current assignments.
The police sources said that in two cases, policemen are not relieved even after their transfer orders. In one case, the cop who has been transferred does not want to leave the place where he was posted for a long time.
In such a scenario, the policeman, backed by some of senior police officials with whom he is on good terms, stays put at the place avoiding transfer. In some cases, due to the shortage of staff in a particular unit, or due to the pending work of a particular cop, he is not relieved from his unit.

According to the RTI, 42-Inspectors, 62-Sub-Inspectors, 161 Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 196 Head Constables and 144 Constables are left unrelieved in Delhi Police different districts and units.
