Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain hospitalised with high fever, breathing trouble; Coronavirus test today

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, who has been working at the forefront in fight against Coronavirus, has been hospitalised due to high fever and breathing trouble.

Jain was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital after a sudden drop in his oxygen levels.

A coronavirus test will be conducted on him today, according to a reports.

Speaking on his condition, Satyendar Jain said, “Due to high grade fever and a sudden drop of my oxygen levels last night I have been admitted to RGSSH. Will keep everyone updated”.

The health minister was with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and L-G Anil Bail at a crucial meeting on Sunday to discuss the Coronavirus sitaution in the national capital.

Earlier on June 6, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had developed mild fever and was displaying symptoms of cough and sore throat. Following this, he kept himself isolated at his home and was tested for Coronavirus two days later. In a major relief, the result returned negative.

Delhi on Tuesday saw a spike of 1,647 cases and 73 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the total number of infections to 42,829 and fatalitie to 1400.

Delhi has seen a spurt in Coronavirus cases and over 1,000 new cases daily for the past few days. It is currently the third worst-hit state in terms of cases and deaths.

Meanwhile, the state government has said that around 5.5 lakh cases are expected in Delhi by July 31 based on the current doubling rate.

However, despite a spike in cases and deaths, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has clarified that there are no plans for another lockdown in the national capital to curb the spread of novel Coronavirus.

Earlier on Friday, Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain had also said that the lockdown will not be extended in the capital.

Meanwhile, the Centre has taken several steps to curb the spread of Coronavirus in the capital.

An all-party meeting over the management of Coronavirus situation in the National Capital Region (NCR), which includes Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh and parts of Haryana was chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday.

At the meeting, it was decided that by June 20, Delhi government will start conducting 18,000 COVID-19 tests per day.

The Home Minister also assured right to testing for everyone.

On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held two high-level meetings on management of the worrying COVID-19 situation in Delhi.

The first meeting was attended by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and top officials of the Union Home and Health Ministries, while the second was with with mayors and commissioners of Delhi’s three municipal corporations.

In the meetings, the Centre directed the Delhi government to double COVID-19 testing in the next three days and triple it in six days.

The Centre has also decided to provide 500 railway coaches equipped with facilities for Coronavirus patients to tackle the shortage of beds in COVID-19 hospitals in the national capital.

Shah also ordered authorities to hand over the bodies of suspected COVID-19 cases in Delhi to relatives without waiting for laboratory confirmation of infection but the ashes should be treated with precaution and as per the government guidelines.

The high-level meetings come after the apex court’s unambiguous rap on Friday, calling the handling of the situation “horrendous, horrific, and pathetic”.
