Senior Advocate DC Raina was appointed as the first Advocate General of the newly created Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. A notification was issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs in this regard.

“In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 79 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, the Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is pleased to appoint DC Raina, Senior Advocate, as Advocate General for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” the notification said.

The notification also mentioned about the remuneration and other provisions of the Advocate General. It said that the headquarters of Advocate General is going to be the same as the headquarters of the high court, otherwise directed by the government.

The Advocate General will also be provided security by the Home Department.

The order was issued by the new Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, GC Murmu.

GC Murmu was appointed as the first LG of Jammu and Kashmir a day after the creation of the Union Territory.

The Union Territory was carved out of the state of Jammu and Kashmir along with the abrogation of Article 370 from the Constitution that gave special status to the state.
