Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu on winning a gold medal and Deepak Lather for bagging a bronze medal in Weightlifting at 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Australia’s Gold Coast.
Weightlifter Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu delivered India its second gold medal of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast City.
“A second Gold for India! Congratulations to K Sanjita Chanu on winning the Gold Medal in the Women’s 53 kg weightlifting event. The nation is overjoyed by this exemplary performance”, said PM Modi.

The Manipuri lifter lifted a total of 192 kg which included a CWG record of 84kg in the snatch and 108 kg in clean and jerk.
Prime Minister also congratulated Deepak Lather on winning a bronze in Weightlifting.

The 18-year-old, Deepak Lather, became the youngest Indian weightlifter to claim a Commonwealth Games medal, clinching a bronze in the men’s 69kg category.
