Curfew was relaxed in the entire Jammu district for 10 hours on Wednesday as the situation remained peaceful.
Curfew was imposed here six days ago on February 15 following incidents of arson to protest the killing of 44 CRPF jawans a day earlier in a terror attack at Pulwama.
District magistrate Ramesh Kumar initially ordered a curfew relaxation for 3 hours, from 8 am to 11 am on Wednesday morning and then extended it till 6.30 pm after reviewing the situation after a gap of 2 hours.
He ordered that all government and private schools will reopen on Thursday but colleges and universities will remain closed. The administrative wing of the Jammu University will function on Thursday.
The curfew might be completely lifted on Thursday if calm prevails.
The curfew has been stretched for the past six days as a precautionary measure although the situation had eased on February 16. However, rumours and provocative social media posts by miscreants were keeping the atmosphere tense as a result of which the authorities did not take the risk of lifting the curfew, sources said.
