Congress leader Sashi Tharoor on Monday said that a consensus needs to be evolved on the issue of Vizhinjam sea port.
Speaking to reporters after a breakfast meeting with Cardinal Mar George Alencherry in Kochi, Tharoor said that many demands of the fishermen protesting against Vizhinjam international port project are legitimate and a consensus needs to be evolved on the issue.
The fishermen had saved the flood hit people. We should think about what we have done in return for them, said Tharoor.
He said that he did not discuss the issue of Vizhinjam with Cardinal Mar George Alencherry. He added that he discussed public matters with the cardinal.
Tharoor, who has always supported the Vizhinjam seaport project, accused the state government of not addressing the concerns of fishermen.
He stood firm on his stance that the Vizhinjam port project will be beneficial for the economy of the state and the country.
Asked about PC Chacko inviting him to the party, Tharoor said that there was no discussion on the matter between the two.
“I need to be welcomed if I am going there. I am not going to the NCP. Such matters were not discussed with PC Chacko,” said Tharoor.
