Congress leader Manvendra Singh’s wife Chitra Singh died in a car accident on Delhi-Jaipur highway on Tuesday. Singh, his son Hamir Singh and the car driver sustained injuries in the accident.
The trio is undergoing treatment at an Alwar hospital where their condition is said to be stable.
“…Chitra Singh was brought dead to the hospital and Manvendra Singh sustained a chest injury but he is conscious…Their son has sustained minor injuries…,” said doctor JS Solanki.
The accident reportedly took place at Haryana-Rajasthan border near Alwar’s Naugaon at around 5 PM.
Manvendra Singh is the son of Jaswant Singh, who was the Foreign Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
“The accident happened around 5 o’clock. There were four people including the driver in the car (Jeep Compass), all of whom were coming to Jaipur from Delhi. Information about the accident was received over the phone at the control room. However, information about how the accident happened has not been revealed yet,” Alwar’s Additional SP Tejpal Singh told news agency IANS.
According to eye witnesses, the car went down the road, crossed the divider and collides with a wall at speed.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Congress Chhattisgarh incharge Sachin Pilot has expressed grief over the death of Manvendra Singh’s wife Chitra Singh.
“The news of the demise of Mrs. Chitra Singh, wife of Mr. Manvendra Singh Jasol in a road accident is sad. I pray to God to give peace to the departed soul and courage to the family. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of Shri Manvendra Singh Jasol and other family members injured in the road accident,” Gehlot wrote on ‘X’.
Pilot said that he was shocked by the news of Chitra Singh and expressed his deep condolences.
“Information has been received about former MP Manvendra ji and his family getting injured in a road accident. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident including Manvendra Singh ji and his son. I am shocked by the news of the death of Shri Manvendra Singh Jasol ji’s wife Smt. Chitra Singh ji in a road accident and express my deep condolence,” Pilot said.
