Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other top leaders of his party on Monday condemned raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the premises of party leaders in Chhattisgarh in connection with the multi-crore coal scam.

The raids were carried out on the Raipur and Bhilai premises of Congress leaders barely five days before Congress Plenary.

The ED raided the premises of Congress leaders, Ramgopal Agrawal, state Congress treasurer cum chairperson of Nagrik Apoorti Nigam, MLA Devendra Yadav, Sunny Agrawal, chairperson of Karmakar Mandal, Congress spokesperson R P Singh and Vinod Tiwari.

Kharge claimed 95 per cent of the ED raids in the last nine years were conducted on Opposition leaders and most of these leaders belonged to the Congress.

”The misuse of the ED for raids on Congress leaders by the Modi Government before the Congress Plenary reflects the work culture of the BJP,” he said.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera alleged that investigative agencies like ED, Income Tax, and CBI have all become frontal organisations of the BJP. He said the Prime Minister had become fearful following the success of the ”Bharat Jodo Yatra” of the Congress and the Gautam Adani ‘expose’.

The Congress, Khera said, would go ahead with all its activities, including the Raipur Plenary.
