The Congress’ Central Election Committee (CEC) on Tuesday discussed the probable names of candidates to be announced in the third list for the Lok Sabha elections.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge chaired the meeting of the CEC held in the presence of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party’s general secretary in charge of Organisation KC Venugopal, and other senior leaders, at the party headquarters here.
During the meeting, they discussed at length the names of the party’s nominees to be finalised from West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
“Today, an important meeting of the CEC related to Lok Sabha elections was held in the presence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Senior leaders from Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal were present in this meeting,” the party wrote on X.
Notably, the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be held simultaneously in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Last week, the Congress released the second list of 43 candidates, including its Deputy Leader in Upper House Gaurav Gogoi from Assam’s Jorhat, for the Lok Sabha elections.
Earlier, the party released the first list of 39 candidates including former party president Rahul Gandhi, who has been fielded from Kerala’s Wayanad, the constituency he represents.
It may be mentioned here that the ruling BJP so far released two lists of candidates for the upcoming elections.
Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases between 19th April 19 and 1st June. The results will be declared on 4th June.
