Veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday night at the age of 95.
Nayar died at around 12.30 AM at a private hospital, his elder son Sudhir Nayyar said. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
His last rites will be performed at Lodhi crematorium at 1 pm today.
The veteran journalist, who began his career with an Urdu newspaper, had also served as high commissioner of India to the UK.
In the year 1997, he was nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha in Parliament.
Author of 15 books, he is fondly remembered for his books like Beyond the Lines, Distant Neighbours: A Tale of the Subcontinent and India after Nehru.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over Nayar’s demise saying that his strong stand against the Emergency, public service and commitment to a better India will always be remembered.
“Kuldip Nayar was an intellectual giant of our times. Frank and fearless in his views, his work spanned across many decades. His strong stand against the Emergency, public service and commitment to a better India will always be remembered. Saddened by his demise. My condolences,” tweeted PM Modi.

President Ram Nath Kovind also condoled the demise of the veteran journalist.
“Sad to hear of the passing of Kuldip Nayar, veteran editor and writer, diplomat and parliamentarian, and a determined champion of democracy during the Emergency. His readers will miss him. Condolences to his family and associates,” the President said in a tweet.
