CM dedicates trauma centre to people of Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on Thursday, dedicated a trauma centre in the new multi-storey OPD block of the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla was completed with an outlay of Rs 30.90 crore.

With the opening of the new OPD ward, doctors, paramedical staff and patients will have a better environment to work in and will enable best medical care to the patients. This will also reduce congestion due to heavy rush of the patients in the OPDs.

Speaking on the occasion, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu informed that a sum of Rs 12 crore was being spent to buy new equipment and machinery for the surgery wing, the orthopedic unit, the radiology and anesthesia section.

The new OPD block will house a Physiotherapy ward, Special wards, Emergency Unit, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Isolation ward, Computerized Tomography (CT) Scan, X-ray, Sample Collection Centre and Pathology lab facilities.

The block will have a special provision to treat the seriously injured and other serious patients on priority. The building has spacious waiting longue for the patients and their attendants. Besides,  it will have separate cabins for the CMO and other paramedical staff.

The chief minister interacted with the patients, the hospital staff and inspected the new OPD block. He said the government was committed to fortify the health infrastructure and separate departments would be set up to strengthen the emergency medical treatment in all the medical colleges of the state.

There will be a provision of one nurse attending to six beds and one doctor to attend to the ten beds with patients. Besides, there will be specialist doctors and paramedical staff to attend to one bed each in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

He said that the state government would soon start the Robotic Surgery facility in each of the medical college in the state to provide the world’s best health facilities to the people.

Apart from this, 5-G technology will be included in these health institutions to provide state-of-the-art medical services. He said that modern technology-rich and hi-tech hospitals will be set up in each medical block to provide excellent health facilities near their homes.

Earlier, the staff and Principal of IGMC welcomed and honored the chief minister.

MLA Harish Janaratha thanked the Chief Minister for providing state-of-the-art health services to the people at IGMC.
