Churu BJP MP Rahul Kaswan joins Congress

In yet another setback back to the ruling BJP, it’s sitting MP from Rajasthan’s Churu Lok Sabha constituency Rahul Kaswan on Monday joined the Congress party in the presence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders.

Kaswan, who was denied BJP ticket for Lok Sabha elections, joined the Congress shortly after resigning from the saffron party.

“I would like to thank Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, and senior leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Govind Singh Dotasra and others for allowing me to join Congress,” Kaswan said at a press conference.

He said, “The voice of farmers is being neglected. There are many such issues on which I decided to join the Congress Party…”

The Churu MP had been vocal about the BJP’s decision to drop him from its candidates list for the crucial Lok Sabha elections and took pot shots at Rajendra Rathore.

Without naming the senior BJP Rajasthan BJP leader, Kaswan had said that one person can’t decide the future of Churu, his Lok Sabha constituency.

Notebly, Rathore had indirectly taken a “Jaychand” (word used for trainers) jibe at Rahul Kaswan after he lost the assembly elections from Churu’s Taranagar constituency.

Earlier today, Kaswan announced his resignation from the BJP due to political reasons.

“Due to political reasons, at this very moment today, I am resigning from the primary membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the post of Member of Parliament,” he added.

The Churu MP also thanked the BJP, its national president JP Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah for giving him the opportunity to serve the Churu Lok Sabha seat.
