Nine children among 16 killed in separate road accidents in Uttarakhand

At least 16 people including nine children were killed in two separate road accidents in Uttarakhand on Tuesday.

At least nine children are feared dead and many seriously injured after a school bus, carrying 18 children, rolled down a gorge in Kangsali of Tehri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand early in the day.

The accident occurred after the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle and rolled down a deep gorge.

According to the Disaster Mitigation And Management Centre, a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team was rushed to the accident spot to carry out rescue operations.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, in another road accident, at least seven people were killed, while several others are feared trapped beneath a boulder that fell on the bus they were travelling in at Lambagad slide zone on the Badrinath Highway in Uttarakhand.

A police team is present at the spot of the accident. Rescue operations are underway.
