Centre notifies appointment of five judges to SC

The Centre on Saturday notified the appointment of five Judges to the Supreme Court. They will be sworn in as top court judges on February 6. They will be administered oath by the Chief Justice Justice D.Y. Chandrachud.

The five judges whose names were notified by the Centre today are Justice Pankaj Mittal, Justice Sanjay Karol, Justice P. V. Sanjay Kumar, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Justice Manoj Misra.

With their swearing in, the strength of the apex court judges will go upto 32 – two short of its sanctioned strength of 34 judges.

The collegium had on January 31, also recommended the elevation of Justice Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, Allahabad High Court and Justice Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice, High Court of Gujarat for elevation to Supreme Court.

When they were recommended for appointment as apex court judges,

Justice Pankaj Mithal was Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court, Justice Sanjay Karol was Chief Justice of Patna High Court, Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar was Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah was judge of Patna High Court and Justice Manoj Misra was judge of Allahabad High Court.
