As the Narendra Modi-led BJP government appears set to stage a thumping comeback for a straight second term, celebrations erupted at the party headquarters in Delhi.
Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the party headquarters raising slogans like ‘Modi once again’, ‘Har Har Modi’ and ‘Vande Mataram’.
With the Lok Sabha election trends showing an overwhelming majority for the BJP, the saffron party’s supporters burst firecrackers and blew the conch to express their happiness.
Security has been heightened outside the party headquarters.
Several of the supporters came from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and Haryana to be part of the celebrations in the national capital.
Celebrations were also reported at BJP offices in other states including West Bengal where the party had made big gains with early trends showing the party taking 17 seats of the total 42 Lok Sabha seats.
The Bengal tally is among the key factors behind the party’s massive victory with a higher total than 2014.
Most exit polls had already predicted a return of the BJP-led NDA with full majority, though the opposition parties have trashed it.
In 2014, the BJP had won 282 seats while the Congress had to contend with an all-time low of 44 seats as against the 206 it won in 2009.
