Responding to summons from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Sheikh Shahjahan’s brother Sheikh Alamgir appeared at the Nizam Palace this morning, along with other associates of the suspended and arrested leader.
The CBI had issued summons to Sheikh Alamgir on 13 March regarding the attack on the ED officials in Sandeshkhali on 5 January.
Additionally, several individuals from Sandeshkhali were called in separately for questioning by the ED. They have been instructed to appear at the Salt Lake Complex. Shahjahan’s two brothers, Alamgir and Sheikh Siraj are scheduled to be questioned by the ED next week. The CIA is investigating the incident of the attack on the ED in Sandeshkhali, under court orders.
Shahjahan, the primary suspect, is currently under the CBI custody. The CBI team had visited Sandeshkhali multiple times. They have conducted raids at the homes of the suspects and issued notices for questioning. Central officials also visited Sheikh Alamgir’s house. Following the notice, he appeared at Nizam Palace on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, the ED on Saturday issued a notice to Sheikh Alamgir for interrogation in connection with the multi-crore ration distribution case in West Bengal.
The ED sleuths have also issued a similar notice to Sheikh Siraz. The ED is also investigating allegations of financial misconduct against Shahjahan, and the investigation is being conducted by another central agency. They had visited Sandeshkhali a few days ago and conducted raids at several homes.
They also appeared at the relevant office on Friday. On 5 January, they attempted to raid Shahjahan’s house for investigation into the ration scam case but were unable to enter.
