Coming down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) crisis, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a press conference, said that he (PM) has insulted the Constitution of the country, the Chief Justice of India, the Leader of the Opposition, and most of all, the people of the country by removing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Alok Verma.
Terming it as a panic reaction on the part of the PM, Gandhi said that Verma’s removal is illegal and accused the PM of prying on the former CBI director for fear of being exposed of corruption committed in the Rafale deal, adding that the original Rafale contract was changed with a new one to benefit Anil Ambani to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore.
The Congress President claimed that the CBI was going to begin an investigation on the role of PM Modi in Rafale deal and the ‘corruption’ carried out by him hence this ‘midnight coup’ took place on the orders of Prime Minister Modi.
The Congress President said that the appointment and removal of CBI director are done by a committee of three people who are Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India, and the Leader of Opposition, but the CBI Director was removed at 2 am in the night.
Adding further he said that the room of the CBI Director was sealed and there were ‘incriminating’ documents that were taken away to suppress the evidence.
Referring to the appointment of Odisha cadre IPS officer M Nageswar Rao as the interim Director of CBI, Gandhi alleged that the charge of the central agency has been given to a man who himself has cases registered against him so that he can be easily controlled by the PM.
He said that the Congress, Opposition, and the country will not spare PM Narendra Modi.
He can hide but he cannot run and the moment he is caught he will be finished, asserted Rahul Gandhi.
