CBI arrests Odisha GST Superintendent on bribery charge

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday caught a Superintendent of Goods & Services Tax (GST) in Odisha’s steel township Rourkela red-handed while accepting monetary gratification from a complainant.

A case was registered against the Superintendent of GST, Rourkela, on allegations of demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant for correcting the erroneously fixed GST liability of Rs 8 lakh of the complainant to Rs 3.5 lakh.

It was also alleged that the accused negotiated with the complainant and agreed to accept a partial bribe of Rs 20,000 as the first instalment.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the partial bribe amount of Rs 20, 000 from the complainant. Searches are being conducted at the residential premises of the accused at Rourkela, the CBI said in a statement.
