Political circles remained abuzz on Saturday amidst speculation that former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and his MP son Nakul Nath, both from the Congress, might join the BJP.
The father-son duo neither confirmed nor denied the speculation till late Saturday evening.
Speaking to some media persons, Kamal Nath said, “Why are you all getting so excited? You all are saying this and getting excited. I am not excited, whether this side or that.”
“It is not a question of denying, but if there is any such thing, you will be the first ones to know,” Kamal Nath, who is the Congress MLA from Chhindwara, told media persons.
The rumours gained further spark as ‘Congress’ could not be seen on Nakul Nath’s X profile today, as per media reports.
Sources added that Kamal Nath and Nakul Nath had suddenly cancelled all their pre-scheduled programmes for Saturday evening in Chhindwara and on Sunday in nearby Tamia. The father-son duo were reported to be leaving for New Delhi in the evening.
The speculation about the Naths’ possibility of joining the BJP has been going on for some time now and they were fuelled after the Congress recently did not give a Rajya Sabha berth to Kamal Nath and instead made Ashok Singh from Gwalior, its official candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh.
In a related development, the Congress party’s logo could not be seen on the social media profile of Sajjan Singh Verma, a Congress MLA from Sonkatch in Madhya Pradesh, media reports said.
Verma is considered to be among the staunchest supporters of Kamal Nath.
