Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met the family members of slain police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh Rathore at his official residence in Lucknow on Thursday.
Even as investigating agencies are probing the possibility of a “deep conspiracy” behind Monday’s violence in Bulandshahr district, official sources said the chief minister assured the family members of the policeman of all possible help. The chief minister told the officer’s widow the accused would not be spared, and that an independent inquiry was being conducted in the incident.
The meeting at the CM’s official residence, 5 Kalidas Marg, lasted for about 30 minutes. The official sources said the police officer’s family members appeared satisfied after the meeting. State minister and Bharatiya Janata Party in-charge of Etah district Atul Garg and UP Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh were present at the meeting.

Talking to the media, the DGP said the expenditure to be incurred on the education of the two sons of Subodh Kumar Singh would be borne by the state government, as instructed by the chief minister. He said all other help and facilities would be provided to the bereaved family, adding that one member from the slain officer’s family would be given a government job.
Atul Garg, who also addressed the media, said a road and a college in Etah would be named after Subodh Kumar Singh. Garg claimed that the order pertaining to renaming the approach road from the police inspector’s village to Jaithori-Kurauli road after Singh had already been issued by the government.
Subodh Kumar Singh, the station house officer of Sayana police station in Bulandshahr district, and a 20-year-old youth, Sumit, were killed in the violence and mayhem unleashed by a mob led by Hindu right wing activists over an alleged incident of cow slaughter on 3 December.
Yogi Adityanath’s meeting with the SHO’s wife, his two sons and sister was held against the backdrop of criticism by the opposition parties over deterioration of law and order in the state. The chief minister was criticised for his silence over the killing of the police officer by a riotous mob. In a press release issued after the law and order meeting convened by him on Tuesday, Adityanath had said the violence was the outcome of a “conspiracy”. While maintaining a silence over Singh’s killing, the UP chief minister gave instructions to enforce a crackdown on incidents of “cow slaughter”.
