Retaliating to cross-border firing, the Border Security Force (BSF) destroyed as many as six Pakistani posts and killed at least 4 Pakistani Rangers.

The action comes on the day when Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked shelling on Indian border villages and border outposts along the LoC killing two civilians and an army jawan.

Four others, including a BSF jawan, were injured after Pakistan violated ceasefire for the third consecutive day on Saturday in three districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The BSF said that Pakistan rangers targeted villages along the border from Chenab river (Akhnoor) to RS Pura throughout the night in heavy unprovoked shelling and firing.

Sepoy Mandeep Singh, a resident of Alampur village of Sangroor in Punjab, attained martyrdom.

Union minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir said that India will “respond with 10 bullets for every bullet fired” by Pakistan.

On 19 January, four people – two civilians and one BSF jawan and an Army jawan – were killed in unprovoked firing from the Pakistani side. Over 40 others were injured. On 18 January, a BSF jawan and a teenage girl were killed in cross-border firing.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a financial aid of Rs 20 lakh for the wife and Rs 5 lakh for the parents of BSF head constable Jagpal Singh (49) of Bulandshahr who attained martyrdom in Friday’s ceasefire violation.

Thousands of border residents have been forced to flee their homes and educational institutions have been shut down due to heavy shelling from Pakistani side.
