The BJP, on Tuesday, sharply attacked Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for his controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appealed to the people of Gujarat to give a befitting response to such attempts to ”denigrate the son of the soil” in the Assembly elections in the state.

“The Congress chief has insulted every Gujarati by calling the PM Ravan and the people of the state should teach a lesson to the grand old party by voting against ”this kind of mentality,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.

During an election meeting in Gujarat, Kharge made this controversial remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing a public rally in Ahmedabad’s Behrampura, the veteran Congress leader said, “We see your (Modi’s) face in corporation elections, MLA elections or MP elections, everywhere…do you have 100 heads like Ravan?”

Lauding the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP spokesperson said, “PM Modi has been working for the development of the downtrodden and backward sections of the society and it has been his constant effort for the last eight years.”

He recalled that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi had described Modi as a merchant of death (maut ka saudagar).

“It is an appeal to all Gujaratis that the party whose president has insulted Modi should be taught a lesson. Gujaratis should come out of their homes in a democratic way and take revenge by voting against Congress,” Patra said.

”Unable to take the heat of Gujarat election, pushed to the fringe, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge loses control over his words, calls Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Ravan”. From “Maut ka Saudagar” to “Ravan”, Congress continues to insult Gujarat and its son…” BJP’s information department chief Amit Malviya tweeted.
