Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav said on Friday morning that the BJP government was doing injustice to party’s senior leader Mohammad Azam Khan and his family.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Khan in the Sitapur District jail, he said,”This is completely inhumane but we have full hope that Azam Khan will definitely get justice. Times will change. Time is always very powerful. There will be justice for Azam Khan.”

Targetting the BJP, he said ”BJP has made a record of false cases against Azam Khan but in the end, truth always prevails”.

Senior Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Azam Khan was on Monday sentenced to seven years imprisonment in connection with a case of trespass and vandalism of a house in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur in 2016. This is the fifth case in which Khan, who is already in jail, has been convicted over the past one year.

Taking up the BJP on its ‘corrupt practices’, Yadav said ”The truth of BJP has come out through election bonds”.

“Now only PDA (backwards, Dalits, minorities) will defeat NDA. The public is waiting for the voting dates. The BJP government is sending Chief Ministers to jail but their truth has come out through electoral bonds,” he said.

The Election Commission of India complying with the Supreme Court order, has released detailed electoral bond data submitted by the State Bank of India. This new data, featuring alpha-numeric codes, allows for tracing purchasers of the bonds to the political parties that encashed them.

Yadav has claimed that most of the backward people, Dalits and minorities would unitedly back the PDA — ‘Picchde’ (backward classes or OBCs), Dalits and ‘alpsankhyak’ (minorities) — plank of his party in Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Akhilesh Yadav’s meeting with Azam Khan is being linked to the Lok Sabha elections. It is being said that the Rampur candidate will be approved by the party only after Khan’s consent is received.
