Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Wednesday claimed that the Yamuna river has been polluted 200 per cent more since the Arvind Kejriwal government came into power in Delhi.
Bidhuri, along with other BJP MLAs BJP MLAs, brought water from the Yamuna to the Delhi Assembly to protest against the rising pollution of the river water. Bidhuri said people of Delhi are forced to drink the polluted water from Yamuna.
“Farmers have no other choice but to use this water for harvesting crops,” Bidhuri said.
Bidhuri further said that the experts are suggesting that the water was not good for health. The Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly demanded an answer from the Delhi government on the rising pollution in the river and asked why the government is not providing information on the funds given by the Centre for cleaning the Yamuna river.
Claiming that the Centre allotted Rs 2,500 crore to the AAP Government for cleaning Yamuna, Bidhuri said, “Where did the entire money go, I think it fell prey to corruption.”
Later, Bidhuri said, the BJP MLAs tried to raise the matter of pollution in Yamuna river in the Delhi Assembly and brought dirty Yamuna water in bottles but Speaker Ram Niwas Goel did not allow them to discuss the issue in the Assembly. Four BJP MLAs were marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly following protests in the House over the matter.
The BJP MLAs later marched towards Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s office in the Delhi Assembly and staged a sit-in outside the office.
Bidhuri said, “Delhi Government’s own report has accepted that Yamuna water has become more polluted by 200 percent in eight years. This polluted water is being supplied to the public due to which people are suffering from serious diseases like cancer, kidney, liver, lungs, and stomach.”
“Surprisingly, this report has been released by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee itself, which is a department of the Delhi Government. It has been said in the report that Yamuna has been polluted double fold, after 2014,” he said.
