Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijay Singh has said the BJP is behind the protests that are being organised by some organisations against the amendment in the SC/ST Atrocities (prevention) Act, 1989, to divert the attention of the people from its governments failure in the Centre and states.

Speaking to The Statesman during a visit here on Saturday, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and election coordination committee chief said the Central government has failed on every issue be it inflation, demonetisation, employment, etc.

“Ahead of Assembly polls and Lok Sabha election, the BJP is propping up this issue to hide its failures. MP government has also failed in providing relief to farmers,” Singh said. “It is a most corrupt government in the country. Family members of the MP chief minister and various ministers are involved in illegal mining,” he added.

Organisations of upper castes and OBCs have been protesting against the amendment in the SC/ST Atrocities (prevention) Act. The protesters including Karni Sena, SAPAKS and Swarn Samaj Sangathan have been showing black flags and throwing bangles at ministers and leaders in the state. They have also pelted stones on the motorcades of Congress and BJP leaders.
