The ruling seven party alliance. “Mahagathbandhan”, will launch an “oust-Modi campaign” from bordering Purnia much ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had also launched his party’s campaign against the newly-formed grand alliance from Purnia in September last,.
It was Amit Shah’s first visit to Bihar after CM Nitish Kumar-led JDU broke up with the BJP in last August. The home minister, while launching campaign had said that Nitish had betrayed the people of Bihar after making government with the alliance with RJD and Congress.
Accusing Nitish and Laloo, Amit Shah had said that they were doing politics of “selfishness”and “power” while BJP works for the service of the people and development.
Talking to media persons here today, the state RJD president Jagdanand said lakhs of people, mostly poor and downtrodden from marginalised section of the society are expected to gather at Rangbhumi maidan in Purnia on February 25. He called upon people belonging to all the sections of the society to attend the rally to defeat the divisive forces.
He said a large number of people are expected to gather at Purnia from neighbouring Araria Kishanganj, Madhepura, Saharsa and Supaul.
JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha said that CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejshwai Prasad Yadav will be star speakers at the rally.
Congress leader Madan Mohan Jha said that Rahul Gandhi, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, had tried to convince the people about maintaining communal harmony.
Several party leaders, including Sarvodaya Sharma of CPM Vijay Kant Mishra of CPI and KD Yadav of CPI ML, have addressed the media.
JDU leader and MLC Upendra Prasad Kushwaha has also decided to convene a party workers’ meeting on February 19-20 at Sinha Library campus in which he is expected to announce a division in the party.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to visit Bihar on February 22 to address farmers to attend a function organised to commemorate noted Bihar’s Kisan Sabha leader late Swami Sahajanand Saraswati at Bihta near Patna.
