On the occasion of ‘Bihar Diwas’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted his “brothers and sisters” from Bihar and acknowledged the state’s contribution towards the nation’s progress.

“Greetings to my sisters and brothers of Bihar on Bihar Diwas. Right from historical times, Bihar’s contribution towards the nation’s progress is exemplary and invaluable,” Modi tweeted.

Bihar Diwas or Bihar Day is celebrated every year on March 22, marking the formation of the state of Bihar.

The state was carved out from West Bengal in 1912 and declared a separate state by the then colonial British government.

The three-day ‘Bihar Diwas’ celebrations beginning on Thursday will be inaugurated by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

The celebrations will be based on the theme of Champaran Satyagrah centenary year.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had on Wednesday greeted the people of the state on the eve of ‘Bihar Diwas’ and hoped that the state would keep marching on the path to prosperity.
