Doctors operating on a pregnant woman at a government hospital in Bihar were left hugely surprised when she “delivered” a 315 bore rifle bullet along with a baby girl. The reason for their amazement was that the bullet was stuck in her womb in such a way that it neither harmed the baby nor the mother! But, what was even more surprising was the woman’s revelation that she had no idea as to when the bullet hit her.

The bizarre incident took place in Sulatnapur locality under Industrial Police Station in Vaishali district earlier this week. Family members rushed Rupa Kumari to a local doctor after blood started oozing out of her abdomen. After getting the first aid, she returned home soon but this didn’t help her and her abdominal pain continued.

Subsequently, her parents admitted her to the nearby Sadar Hospital, presuming it to be her labour pain since she was in the advanced stage of pregnancy. Finding her case serious, the doctors on duty soon performed surgery on the woman who had just completed full-term of pregnancy. They, however, were left bewildered when they found a 315 bore rifle bullet stuck near the placenta yet not harming the baby.

Soon, the doctors removed the bullet and the baby girl was completely safe. The woman too had not suffered major injuries due to the bullet while experts say there are very thin chances of survival when fired from the rifle. “We are amazed how the mother and her baby were safe despite the bullet piercing into her body,” exclaimed Sadar hospital’s in-charge Dr Kameshwar Mandal on being contacted by The Statesman on Friday.

What stunned the doctors at the operation theatre further was the response of the woman who said she had no idea as to when the bullet pierced into her body. “She told us it felt like she was hit with a brickbat when the blood started oozing out,” Dr Mandal said. He added that they had informed the police about the case and also sent the recovered bullet to them for investigation.

The police officials too are startled at the survival of the woman and her baby despite facing the bullet which has huge firepower. “This is nothing but a miracle. There is no chance of survival of a human being facing the 315 bore bullet,” Industrial police station inspector RK Pandey told this scribe over the phone.

Bachane ka sawal hi nahin hai (there is no question of survival),” he said, adding the fact would come to light only after a thorough investigation which is yet to start.
