In a significant development, the Ladakh University has decided to introduce certification courses in Bhoti and Buddhist Studies.
A meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of the Chairman, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, Tashi Gyalson to discuss the introduction of certification courses in Bhoti language and Buddhist Studies at the University of Ladakh.
Dy Chairman, LAHDC, Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillor for Art & Culture, LAHDC Leh, Stanzin Chosphel; Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Prof. SK Mehta; Deputy Secretary, Cultural Academy, Leh; Principal, Government EJM College Leh and Editor, Cultural Academy, Leh attended the meeting.
EC Art and Culture, Stanzin Chosphel apprised the Chairman regarding the inclusion of certificate courses in art, culture, languages, and Buddhist studies in the University of Ladakh. He was later informed by the officers that a committee of experts will soon be formed regarding the formation of the actual syllabus for the said certification courses.
CEC Tashi Gyalson appreciated the participation of all the experts during the meeting and assured that these kinds of initiatives will help in preserving the Bhoti language and other vital knowledge systems in the region.
He further extended his gratitude to the Lt. Governor of Ladakh for his continuous support and to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ladakh for his co-operation in this regard.
A delegation of experts including, Vice-President, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), President LBA Youth Wing; Former Principal, CIBS; President LTO, representatives from LAMO, HCHF, and various veteran Buddhist scholars also attended the meeting.
They further discussed the importance of ‘Rigpai-gnas-bChu’, the ten branches of knowledge classified into five major and five minor knowledge systems with the officials during the meeting.
