In a major victory for the security forces, four militants were on Thursday gunned down in an encounter in Badgam while a teenager was injured after locals attacked an army convoy.
The encounter began early Thursday morning as the army received a tip-off that around four militants, believed to be of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) were present in Futlipora village, Badgam.
As the forces launched a cordon-and-search operation, the hiding militants opened fire triggering the encounter, which lasted for over six hours, police said.
While the encounter was on, an army convoy carrying reinforcements to the village was attacked with stones by a mob in Pakherpora Chowk.
As the army resorted to aerial firing to disperse the mob, 15-year-old Sinar Ahmad was injured and shifted to a hospital in Srinagar, police said.
Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been snapped in Budgam as a precautionary measure.
