Azam Khan and son get two-yr jail term in 15-year-old case

4 including Azam Khan convicted in Dungarpur case


Samajwadi Party leaders Mohammad Azam Khan and his son, Abdullah, were convicted and sentenced to two-year of imprisonment each by a court in a of rioting in 2008.

However the court acquitted seven other SP leaders in the case.

The Special MP MLA Court of Magistrate Smriti Goswami convicted the father-son duo and pronounced the sentence on Monday after hearing the case since 2019.

Police had registered a case against nine people, including Azam Khan and his son, on January 2, 2008 when violence started at the instigation of the SP leader after his vehicle was stopped by police for checking near Chhajlat police station.  Azam, along with other SP leaders also sat on dharna in front of the police station.

The court in the verdict acquitted Nagina SP MLA Manoj Paras, Amroha SP MLA Mehboob Ali, former Moradabad Dehat MLA Ikram Qureshi, former MLA Naeem ul Hasan, DP Yadav, Rajesh Yadav and former SP Moradabad city president Raj Kumar Prajapati.

Special Public Prosecutor Mohan Lal Vishnoi said on the basis of the evidence on the court paper, Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam have been convicted whike remsining seven were acquitted due to lack of evidences.

Earlier in October ,2022,  Mohamnad Azam Khan was sentenced to three years in jail by an MP-MLA court in Rampur, along with a fine of Rs 2,000, in a hate speech case filed against him in 2019 over comments made against UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
