In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police apprehended a man and confiscated a large consignment of narcotics valued at nearly Rs 4.5 crore early Monday morning. Acting on a tip-off regarding the transportation of narcotics from Nagaland to Guwahati, an STF team intercepted a truck with registration number AS01-RC-2336 at Jorabat in the Kamrup Metropolitan district of Assam.
During the search, officials discovered 45 plastic soap cases containing a total of 537.2 grams of heroin. The truck driver, identified as Rananjay Mandal (46), a known drug supplier from Assam’s Barpeta district who was temporarily residing in Guwahati’s Basistha area, was taken into custody.
The police have launched an investigation to delve deeper into the case and uncover any further connections to drug trafficking networks.
