Army jawan killed in Pakistan firing along LoC in J-K

An Army jawan was killed when Pakistani troops opened unprovoked firing at Indian posts in the Naushera sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

According to a spokesman of the Army, the Indian troops retaliated strongly and in the fire exchange, Naik Bakhtawar Singh, was grievously injured and succumbed to his injuries while being evacuated to the Military Hospital.

Naik Bakhtawar Singh (34) belonged to Village Hajipur, Tehsil Mukerian, District Hoshiarpur, Punjab, and is survived by his wife Jasbir Kaur and three children, son aged 11 years, daughter aged 9 years and another son aged 10 months.

The wreath laying ceremony will be held on Saturday at Rajouri. The mortal remains of the martyred soldier will then be transported to his native village where he will be laid to rest with full military honours.

"Naik Bakhtawar Singh, was a brave and sincere soldier. He loved his job to the core," the spokesman added.
